My sisters, parents and I piled into the mini-van for a 3-day road trip to visit relatives in North English and Gilbert Iowa and also to locate some ancestors’ graves at cemeteries in Marshalltown and Colo Iowa. All-in-all, we had a great trip. Top photo left to right: Gladys Schmidt, Ruth and Les Shickel, Beverly Volk, Virginia and Don Wink, Theresa Austin, Norman and Sylvia Wilkins and Nadia Giordana (me). June 13 2008 note: There has been much rain recently and we saw many water-logged fields during our trip. A day or two after we returned home, things got worse and many Iowa towns sustained flooding and damage–some of the worst in Cedar Rapids. We were happy to hear that our family members living there did not have to evacuate, but hearing their firsthand accounts made us keenly aware of the serious nature of the situation.
